Shedding Light on the Problem

December 19, 2009 § Leave a comment

I have to admit that I don’t enjoy home improvement projects very much. We moved into our new home over the summer and have been tackling small upgrades as needed.  For the most part- this has been updating rooms with a little paint, replacing dying kitchen appliances, installing weather-stripping, and updating some outlets and fixtures.  It feels like there have been a litany of small projects for practical rather than aesthetic purposes.

Our kitchen has a lovely old-fashioned overhead light that nicely clashed with our lovely new stainless steel stove and fridge, and I just haven’t been able to get over it’s ugliness .  The shiny brass, flowery style just is not us.  I was finally compelled to do something about it. Usually, my husband had manages the electrical projects. Let’s just say that I’m not known for my grace or handiness.

So today I replace it with an sleek, modern fixture from Ikea.  The new fixture makes a nice difference. It doesn’t hurt that the new fixture has matching light bulbs; they are the same type, wattage, and color.
